ChargeSure is a UK EV charger finder. It is built to work with as little personal data as possible. You can search for chargers, use the map, open charger details and navigate without creating an account and without telling us who you are.
This notice describes what the app actually does with data. It is written in good faith and kept up to date as the app changes. It is not legal advice or a compliance certification.
ChargeSure is operated personally by Roy Longley, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. There is no separate company at this stage.
For any privacy question or request, email roydlongley@gmail.com. No Data Protection Officer has been appointed, as one is not required for processing of this nature.
A postal contact address for the controller is not published here, to avoid publishing a private home address. If you need a written postal address for a formal data protection request, ask by email and one will be provided to you directly.
No account, no name, no email. When you search nearby chargers we use your device location (only if you allow it) or a place/postcode you type in, send those coordinates to our server to look up chargers nearby, and use them to rank results. They are used for that request and are not saved as a location history. If you deny location access, the app falls back to a place search you control.
A postcode/town you search is stored on your own device only, so the app remembers where you were looking. You can clear it by clearing site data.
We deliberately keep identity data to a minimum:
We do not ask for your name, date of birth, phone number, home address, gender or payment details, and there is no marketing profiling, advertising or non-essential analytics in the app.
When you submit a report, your device's precise coordinates may be sent to our server for one purpose only: to check whether you were physically at the charger, so other drivers can trust the report. That check happens at the moment of submission, in memory. The coordinates are then discarded — they are not written to the database, not logged and not sent anywhere else. Only the yes/no result ("verified at location") is stored with the report.
The community only ever sees non-identifying report fields — outcome, speed rating, issue type, comment, whether it was verified at the location, and the time. Your account ID and your vehicle are not exposed, and there are no coordinates to expose.
Reports submitted before this change had their stored coordinates permanently removed, and the database no longer has anywhere to keep them.
The named processor list, written data processing agreements and safeguards for any transfers outside the UK are still being finalised with these providers.
Account data (email, vehicle, favourites, recents, saved journeys) is kept while your account exists and is deleted when you delete your account. Precise report coordinates are not retained at all. Report content shown to the community is kept as long-term charger reliability data.
The public report fields are designed not to identify the reporter, but please do not put personal information about yourself or anyone else into a free-text comment. If a report or comment does contain personal information, or should not have been published, it can be removed or further anonymised on request — email roydlongley@gmail.com.
Backup and log retention periods at the hosting and database layer are still being confirmed with those providers.
You can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, and to withdraw consent to location access. You can do most of this in the app: Your data and account shows what we hold about you and lets you delete your account and personal data. For anything else, email roydlongley@gmail.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
ChargeSure is aimed at adult drivers. We do not knowingly create accounts for children.
If we change what we process, we will update this page. Last reviewed: 15 August 2026.
